Imagine a six-year old struggling to finish homework while his/her parents are fighting, not at home or involved in illegal activity at the dinner table. Imagine that same six-year old becoming associated with gang-related activity because he/she has no place to go after school or during summer break. Children with an unstable home life lack the ability to “bounce back” during times of severe stress such as peer pressure to engage in illegal and/or unhealthy activities. Without the benefit of a strong home base, their ability to make sound decisions is often assailed by negative environmental factors. Every day our inner city youth fight with great strength and courage to overcome their existing situation and look toward a brighter future. In this section, we are proud to their stories and experiences about the struggles and triumphs of overcoming the cycle of poverty. Children's stories bring inspiration and courage to others; and teach us so much about life.
